What is Mylar?
Mylar was first invented in the 1950s by the companies DuPont and Imperial Chemistry Industries. The material, itself, is created through a complex process of polymerizing together terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol to produce a form of polyester resin. The end result is heat-resistant and used to make a variety of plastic sheets and films, among other products.
What is EMF Radiation?
EMF radiation refers to the residue from an electromagnetic field (EMF). EMF radiation isn’t inherently dangerous, as we’ve been soaking it up through the rays of sunshine for millennia.
After the discovery of electricity, we learned how to generate our own and since have created innumerable amounts of electrical items. The byproduct of all these innovations (such as microwaves, computers, smartphones, and other advanced technologies) is man-made EMFs. There is already a growing concern in regards to how much EMF radiation exposure is safe for a human, and we’re vulnerable to more and more every day.
EMF radiation is produced by nearly all electronic devices and appliances, though the amount of radiation each gives off, obviously, differs. Here are some common products which produce their own EMFs.
- Computers
- Metal Plumbing Pipes
- Wi-Fi Devices
- Cellphones
- Microwave Ovens
- Electrical Wiring (in the home)
- Lights with Dimmer Switches
- Televisions
- Radiant In-Floor Heaters (these are a massive source of EMF radiation)
Does Mylar Protect Against EMF Radiation?
The short answer is, yes. Mylar definitely protects against EMF radiation, though it’s important to note, in most cases, it doesn’t block it completely. It is still a very good preventative material, shielding up to 95% of EMFs.
Mylar is becoming favored among many who are concerned about their level of EMF radiation exposure due to its lightness and inexpensive production process, making products such as Mylar blankets available and affordable to the masses.
How Does it Work?
A keyword: attenuation.
Attenuation is the amount of reduction in a force, value, or magnitude. As an example, your walls attenuate sound. That is, the sound waves are reduced when coming into contact with the wall’s surface. The waves are reduced as they spread throughout the material on the wall.
In a similar fashion, when EMF radiation meets the Mylar material, its photons are absorbed or scattered as they pass through.
How to Use:
-
Mylar Sheets and Space Blankets:
Mylar blankets, colloquially known as mylar space blankets, are a lightweight and convenient product for many facing EMF radiation concerns. They come in different thicknesses- the thinner the blanket the less amount of EMF radiation you’ll be able to shield yourself from.
While many Mylar blankets on the market today are geared toward emergency use as they are heat-resistant and provide protection from dangerous weather circumstances, they are not inherently designed to block EMF radiation.
That does discount their effectiveness in doing exactly that, though. If you’re looking for an affordable EMF radiation shielding solution, snagging a few Mylar blankets is a step in the right direction.
-
EMF Shielding Paint:
EMF shielding paint is a pure silicate based on potassium silicate and has no other solvents or toxic chemicals. It is highly effective at helping to block low-frequency micro and radio waves and high-frequency EMFs. With each consecutive coat (and many manufacturers recommend at least 2 coats) the effectiveness of the paint’s EMF radiation protection increases.
-
Reducing EMFs in the Home:
One surefire way to reduce the amount of EMF radiation hitting your family on a daily bases is to reduce the EMF-producing devices and appliances in your home. Here are a few tips to reduce potential EMF absorption:
- Turn off your cell phones at night. Many people- especially those living in homes with many family members, don’t realize how much EMF radiation they’re soaking up while they lay near their phones at night. The more phones in the home, the more EMFs there are. Turning your cell phones off at night can have a surprisingly drastic effect on the level of EMF radiation in your home.
- Limit the use of electronics. With so many people having more than one electronic device they use on a daily basis when talking in terms of EMF radiation exposure, tablets, laptops, computers, and other smaller electronic devices produce a staggering amount of collective EMFs. Limiting the time spent on these devices- and turning them off when not in use- can help to reduce the potential EMFs in your home.
- Use Ethernet cables instead of Wi-Fi whenever possible. Wi-Fi, being wireless, sends those dreaded EMFs throughout the air, rather than into a direct course, as with an Ethernet cable. The cable keeps the EMFs contained, instead of delivering them invisibly throughout the room.
- Use a speakerphone or headphones. Holding a cell phone to your ear is the equivalent of laying the EMFs directly on your head. Distance yourself from the radiation of your cell phone by using speakerphone or headsets whenever possible.
More on Mylar:
Though many still claim Mylar got its start as a reverse-engineered alien technology from Area 51, it was actually developed in secret as its strength and versatility were more advanced than any materials to come before. Since it has been made available to the public, many have touted the benefits of Mylar. If you’re looking for a way to protect yourself and your loved ones from the harmful effects of EMF radiation, purchasing Mylar blankets and/or paint can drastically reduce the potential EMFs in your home.
Effects of EMF Radiation
Now you’re aware of how prevalent an issue EMF radiation is and have avenues to learn how to protect yourself, you might be wondering what the consequences of EMF radiation are…
Potential EMF Radiation Symptoms and Conditions:
- Redness
- Tingling
- Burning Sensations
- Fatigue
- Difficulty Concentrating
- Dizziness
- Nausea
- Heart Palpitations
- Digestive Issues
These are just a few possible symptoms one might experience due to EMF radiation. Some are ultra-sensitive to EMFs. These people may have a condition referred to as EHS or electromagnetic hypersensitivity. Around 10% of EHS cases reported are considered severe.
The amount of daily EMF consumption varies depending on your geographical location. Those living in bigger cities, for example, will undoubtedly receive a higher dose of EMF radiation than those residing in less industrialized areas. Many facing EHS have taken drastic measures to relieve themselves of their symptoms by removing themselves from EMF-rich environments.
A Better Understanding
Becoming educated on EMF radiation, the real effects it can have on your quality of life, and how to take steps to protect yourself will only serve to benefit you and yours in the long run. Though it can be difficult to stay away from electronics that produce EMFs altogether, you can take protective measures to drastically reduce the radiation levels in your own home.
Though some may find themselves more comfortable in less technologically advanced and/or industrial environments, for most, it’s simply not an option. Even twenty years ago, the amount of EMFs wasn’t nearly as prevalent as they are in today’s modern society. Many people own more than one computer, cellphone, television set, etc. and many leave these devices and appliances on or plugged in at all times, thus increasing the amount of potential EMF radiation in their homes.
There are many ways to reduce your family’s possible EMF exposure, as listed above. the research in this field in ever-evolving and innovative concepts are continuously introduced to combat either the effects of EMF radiation or to aid in eliminating the amount of man-made EMFs. Issues such as EHS are not yet considered part of a syndrome, though the issue at the root of the symptoms reported is definitely recognized as a health risk.
The effectiveness and efficiency with which Mylar products protect against EMF radiation are unmatched, thus far, by any other product or material. Though there is nothing that can offer total protection just yet, Mylar is the most reliable construct available to the public en mass. The Mylar blankets are incredibly affordable and a worthy investment, even if just for your emergency kit.
Mylar-based paints are an even more permanent solution and can provide peace of mind for those facing EMF concerns. With more protection per coat, you can rest assured you’ll be able to effectively block much of the EMF radiation produced in your home. Consider the specifics of your situation before purchasing any products or making any major lifestyle changes.
Though there are ways to reduce the EMF radiation in your home on your own, taking the extra step to incorporate Mylar protection can drastically increase the success of EMF reduction. Your family is worth protecting. You’ve taken the right steps in recognizing the problem and doing your due diligence in researching ways to combat the issue. Understanding how Mylar can diffuse EMFs and implementing Mylar products into your protection plan is the most effective way to deal with reducing your family’s risk of abundant EMF radiation exposure.
